Problem Oriented Policing

The Holly Police Department is proud of its hometown connections, and our members have always shared a special connection with residents, because we call this Village home too. This connection is a key element to successful police work, building credibility and confidence.

This year the Police Department will build on this strength by implementing Problem Oriented Policing (P.O.P.) strategies to our toolbox to fight crime and improve the quality of life in the village.

Problem Oriented Policing is divided into 3 areas of the village.

1. Police Officers are assigned to each of the three areas for a six month period. The officers are responsible for providing extra patrols, identifying problems in their area or working P.O.P. complaints.

A P.O.P. complaint could be any chronic problem in their beat.

2. A P.O.P. complaint can originate from a citizen, the officers on patrol or Department Supervision, and is a very effective problem solving tool. Officers are assigned to the problem area for a period of 14 days. During that time they log in the times and any activity they have done while out on their P.O.P.
